As believers, we often find ourselves in situations where we need to pray for something significant, a requirement that surpasses our own capabilities and the options available to us. In these moments, we have one powerful recourse – turning to our heavenly Father. In this article, I would like to share an inspiring experience from my own prayer life, emphasizing the importance of seeking God’s will and listening for His voice. Through this personal journey, my hope is to encourage and edify fellow Christians in their own walk of faith.

The articles under the section “Learnt in Prayer” are dedicated to sharing the revelations I have received during my intimate communion with God. The primary goal is to offer encouragement and spiritual edification to fellow believers. Through these writings, I aim to bring to light the profound insights and lessons learned from my prayer sessions, knowing that they have the potential to uplift and inspire others on their own faith journeys.

In the realm of faith, there are moments when our hearts long for divine intervention in situations that seem insurmountable. Today, I would like to recount a personal experience that unfolded during a time of overwhelming need and limited opportunity for prayer. Through this narrative, I hope to illustrate the power of seeking God’s guidance and the remarkable ways in which He communicates with us, even in the midst of our busiest days. Join me as I share a story of faith, divine connection, and the unwavering assurance that God hears our prayers.

On a particular day, I found myself faced with an urgent and vital requirement, one that far exceeded my own human capabilities and the resources available to me. However, the demands of my daily workload had left me with little time for a meaningful fellowship with God in prayer. Despite these constraints, I recognized the importance of seeking divine guidance and wisdom, realizing that only God could provide the solution I desperately needed.

In the midst of my limitations, I felt an undeniable urge to approach God with a sincere plea for His assistance. In the quiet depths of my heart, I sought His assurance, uttering a humble prayer: “Lord, speak to me regarding this matter. Help me align my desires with Your perfect will.” To my astonishment, my heartfelt plea triggered a familiar response—an unmistakable prompting that has become a cherished hallmark of God speaking directly to my innermost being. This consistent pattern has enabled me to experience divine guidance on countless occasions, with the Bible often serving as the conduit for His messages.

On this particular occasion, I engaged in a study of Matthew 15, being led by the divine guidance of the Holy Spirit. Within this chapter, a specific verses profoundly resonated with my spirit, evoking a deep and meaningful response. The verses that spoke to me during this encounter is as follows:

And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour. -Matthew 15:22-28

This passage is quite familiar, having been shared multiple times within our church community. However, on this particular occasion, I gained a fresh perspective that unveiled a deeper understanding of its significance. It is worth noting that the Canaanite woman, unlike the Israelites, did not belong to the chosen people. In fact, Jesus explicitly states that His mission is directed solely towards the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

At first glance, this may seem to close the door for the Canaanite woman, leaving no room for her to receive anything. However, when we approach this account from a spiritual standpoint, we can perceive the Israelites as symbolizing those who possess and maintain unwavering faith and an abiding relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Those who diligently pursue faith, remaining steadfast in their daily lives amidst various circumstances and engaging in consistent fellowship with the Word and the Holy Spirit, are assured of receiving their desires graciously fulfilled by the divine grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Canaanites or gentiles symbolize individuals who have not yet experienced a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. However, it is important to note that Canaanites or gentiles can extend beyond a specific group to include anyone who is ensnared by worldly desires, consumed by the busyness of life, and neglectful of nurturing their fellowship with the Word and the Holy Spirit. Succumbing to the ongoing battle against the flesh and the allure of worldly temptations, they may find themselves burdened with guilt and distancing themselves from the Lord, erroneously believing that they are unworthy to approach Him or receive His blessings. As a believer, I found myself in a similar state of mind when the moment arose for me to pray earnestly for an important matter. The demands of my hectic life and the multitude of distractions had inadvertently led me to experience a sense of detachment and weariness.

However, as I delved into the passage, I discovered that the Canaanite woman refused to be discouraged by her apparent disqualification to seek the Lord’s assistance in her desperate situation. Even when Jesus likened her to a dog, she did not respond with anger or disappointment. Instead, she astutely transformed the comparison into a positive affirmation. Recognizing that even as a pet dog waits eagerly for the crumbs that fall from its owner’s table, she humbly acknowledged Jesus as her rightful owner. This profound shift in perspective completely transformed the dynamics of the encounter.

When we view this situation through a spiritual lens, we often find ourselves feeling estranged from God, whether due to our own ignorance or willful surrender to worldly temptations. In those moments, an internal voice may whisper, declaring our unworthiness and disqualification to approach God or make our requests known to Him. It is crucial for us to acknowledge the truth of our unworthiness but respond to that inner voice with a resolute affirmation: “Indeed, I am unworthy and unqualified on my own merit, but I find solace in the fact that my gracious Lord accepts me just as I am. He willingly laid down His life for me, even when I was a sinner and an enemy of God.” This transformative realization shifts the spiritual dynamics, creating an environment of positivity and boldness, enabling us to confidently present our petitions before the Lord.

This profound experience brought me immense encouragement and infused my spirit with an overwhelming sense of joy. It served as a powerful reminder of the unfathomable love our Heavenly Father has for us. He stands ever-ready to listen to the depths of our sincere inner voice, always eager to send His gentle whispers to revive our weary souls. If you find yourself in a similar situation, feeling distant or disconnected from the Lord, hold onto this truth: His love for you is boundless and eternal. Just as a devoted Father cannot reject His own child, you are His beloved child. Embrace the opportunity for reconciliation and open yourself to receive the perfect love He desires to manifest in your life and circumstances. May God bless you abundantly on this transformative journey of faith. God bless you!
