And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold – Luke 8:8

Everyone of us needs hundredfold fruit from the works we do and the investments we make. But todays word emphasises on a characteristic called, “good ground”. But how can there be a good ground?

If we analyse the natural physical ground, no one need to place stones and rocks in a ground, but naturally they would come. In the same way the thorny bushes and weeds just grow like that without any attention and care. If we look at this from a different angle, an unattended ground naturally have the rocks and thorny bushes and weeds.

If we look at this from the understanding we gathered till now, if we don’t work out, we lack interest and we are occupied with fleshly and worldly pleasures and desire, and this is natural. A good ground obviously means a ground that does not have any stones, rocks, thorny bushes or weeds that hinders the growth of the to be planted seeds. Naturally this is not possible. That’s why good grounds are made. If we look at this passage from Isaiah 5:2:

And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine – Isaiah 5:2

The ground was prepared by removing all the stones. It was fenced to protect from the attacks. So it was prepared to be a good ground. That’s why we need to remember today that the good grounds are made. They are made with a deliberate effort.

We can equate many things to ground in our life like our mind, our areas of interest etc. But on a high level and to apply to almost everything that we do, we can equate the good ground to the relationship with the heavenly Father through Jesus Christ and the fellowship of Holy Spirit. This is the ultimate good ground.

This good ground of having the relationship with the heavenly Father is not natural in our lives but needs a deliberate decision and effort. It needs a deliberate decision and determination to clinge on the freely given salvation by and through the blood of Jesus Christ. In everything I do, when I start consulting the Father through the word and prayer, my relationship will grow and the ground starts to become good. The word we meditate helps to remove the stones and thistles from our life. The Holy Spirit guides us to identify the stones and thistles. The same word becomes a manure or a fertilizer to fill the ground with nutrients. Eventually our life becomes the good ground.

Shall we make a deliberate decision today, to cultivate a relationship with the heavenly Father? It needs faith in the finished work of Jesus on the cross, to consciously believe that we are not bound to and by the guilt of our failures. It needs faith in the truth of Holy Spirit being with us always, even in our utter failures. It needs a realization that the heavenly Father did not abandon us for our failures but he paid the price to transform us from our natural failure state of life. May this day be a blessed day in our lives.

Prayer

Dear heavenly Father, thank you for loving me so much. My natural life is full of stones and thistle which cannot bring forth fruit for your glory or my well being. But you wanted me to be abundantly fruitful. Thank you for the arrangement you made through Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit. Thank you for not leaving me nor forsaking me, even when I failed many times. Help me to trust you completely and submit into hands for the work of being prepared as a good ground for you. I pray in the name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen
