And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. -Luke 8:7

In this verse we see a different ground where thorny bushes are there. If we recollect rocky soil it prevented to have moisture. We learnt that moisture is the zeal for the work of God. Now in today’s ground, we see thorny bushes spread across the ground.

These thorny bushes are chocking the growth of the plants sprung up from the seeds. That means, the ground is good for the seed to grow and become a plant. Also the plants started growing. But the surrounding thorny bushes are hindering the growth and eventually the plants were not bearing fruit.

The thorns in our life represents the pleasures of this world, as Lord explained later. If we observe our life, we will have zeal to do the will of God and the work of God. We even start something and it starts to grow too. But we also indulge in the worldly and fleshly pleasure for enjoyment or entertainment or for any other purposes. Slowly the time we spent on the spiritual things will be taken over by these pleasure activities. Eventually our works will not yield any results.

I remember how my zeal towards the work of God enabled me to start my YouTube channel. Initially I posted regular content and prayed for people who connected and shared the word of God after meditations. But slowly slowly my time went for other lesser priority things and eventually my work did not yield any result.

What to do now? only thing that we can do is remove the thorny bushes and use the fertilizers. The word being the sword it can help to remove the thorns and the same word being the food for our spirit, can also enable you to bring back the passion and zeal and make you to flourish.

Let’s examine ourselves and confess before God and remove the thorns in our life.

Prayer

Dear Loving Heavenly Father, thank you for talking to me today regarding the thorns in my life. Yes Lord, there are thorns which prevented and hindered the growth of my spiritual life and fellowship with you. I confess today and help me with your word to remove them and start growing again in you. I pray in the name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen.
