A sower went out to sow his seed … Luke 8:5

According to the dictionary the meaning of “sow” is as follows:

  1. To scatter upon earth for growth
  2. To introduce into selected environment
  3. To set in motion

Also the meaning of “seed” is as follows:

  1. the grains or ripened ovules of plants used for sowing
  2. A source of development and growth
  3. A unit of reproduction (ex. Semen)

In the verse we read, “ his seed”. In the verse context, it is obvious that the seeds are plant seeds. But when we meditate to extract the revelation from this verse, seed is anything that is invested and produces results.

For spiritual growth we need to sow spiritual seeds. In the portion we read, if we read further, the seeds are the word of God. “His seed” means the word God posses. But if we have to sow, we should posses the seeds. What seeds we can posses?

  1. Time: time is something that we can invest or sow to reap the fruit based on which area we spent our time. Ex. If we invest our time in word meditation we will reap knowledge about God.
  2. Money: money is aslo an element that can be invested. If we invest money in God’s work, we reap the rewards for being part of the progress of the kingdom of heaven.
  3. Talent: our talents are also like seeds. If we invest our talents in the work of God, we reap the rewards for being part of the kingdom of heaven.

Today’s focus is the seed you have for God. On this new year’s first day, take time to understand your seed.

Sharing the word of God on your social media walls is your seed. God can use it to encourage at least one person, bringing goodness in His sight.

Praying for a neighbor’s salvation or problems, helping your church’s needs, and investing time to align with the word in one area of your life are your seeds. Discover what you have today and use it for God’s glory.

Prayer
Gracious heavenly Father, thank you for guiding us on the concept of seed. Assist me in identifying my seeds and grant me the wisdom to use them for Your glory. In the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
