03-Sep-2024 – A way in your wilderness?

Behold,I will even make a way in the wilderness -Isaiah 43:19
What is wilderness? It can be defined as an uncultivated, uninhabited, and inhospitable region. Or a neglected or abandoned area. An uncultivated, uninhabited, and inhospitable region would be wild and overgrown. Weeds and thorny plants would cover the ground, with no clear paths or roads in sight. The vegetation would be dense and chaotic, making it hard to walk through. Spider webs would hang thickly between the plants, and the air would be heavy with the smell of damp earth and decay. It would feel isolated, silent except for the rustling of leaves and the occasional buzz of insects—a place untouched by human hands.
To make a way there, is a tedious process. Making a way through such a region is a tedious process because the dense, chaotic vegetation and overgrown plants create physical barriers. You’d have to cut through thick underbrush, clear out weeds, and remove thorny bushes, which is both time-consuming and physically challenging. The uneven terrain and hidden obstacles like rocks and fallen branches add to the difficulty, slowing progress. Additionally, the absence of any established paths means you’d be starting from scratch, requiring careful planning and effort to create a navigable route. All of this makes the task challenging and exhausting.
In modern times, it may not be an impossible task, but it requires investment in both money and physical labor. If a wealthy person acquired such land for a specific purpose, they could invest their money, hire labor, and make it accessible. But what about someone who lacks resources—who cannot afford to hire labor and is unable to do it themselves?
If we have to apply the concept of wilderness in our life, it represents an abandoned situation. For example, someone is suffering from a severe health condition. He was treated by many doctors, and hospitals but no positive progress. The hope is lost in that scenario. This is called a wilderness experience.
Another situation could be like we have the possibility of improving a situation but many things has to be brought into order. For example, consider a careless child who does not mind education but enjoys games and food. But he has a very good ability to apply the concepts he learnt in general. Now to make him productive, is possible situation but it needs to correct lot many areas right from discipline, inculcating the sense of realising the big picture of life, encouraging him for a goal, enabling him to orient for the goal. It is a hectic work. This is another perspective of wilderness, which is making something usable by putting things in the right place.
Let us consider only these situations for our meditation. Today God is speaking to us about His ability to create a way even in the wilderness. Today our God wanted you to understand what He can do in your life. In your wilderness, you can have a way created but only condition that is required is, believing that God can do it. And trust in His guidance and do it. If we remember how He guided the Israelites through the wilderness, we can have faith. If we remember how he directed Jospeh to the Egypt, then we can trust him. That’s knowing the truth about your God is very important to experience His mighty to create a way in your wilderness.
Prayer
Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for reminding today about your ability to create a way where there is no visible possibility to even attempt. In our life there are many situations. Some are health related, some are financial things and some are career related. But whatever may be, you are the God who can make a way in a wilderness. Help us to trust you in our personal situations and be a testimony for your glory. I pray in the name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen!
