29-Aug-2024 – Align yourself according to the principle of submission and love

Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. – Colossians 3:24
Today, we are meditating on the concept of alignment in prayer. Generally, alignment refers to the proper arrangement or positioning of something in a straight line or in the correct or appropriate relative position. In this context, alignment means staying focused on and adjusted to the goal, continually checking and refining your course to ensure you’re moving in the right direction.
Based on the verse we referred to, it is understood that we will receive the reward of inheritance from the Lord. A reward is something given in recognition of an effort, achievement, or good behavior. The reason for this reward is also mentioned in the verse: “For ye serve the Lord Christ.” This means that, because you serve the Lord Jesus Christ, your faithful service to Him will bring you rewards. So, what should we do?
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; – Colossians 3:23
This verse does not differentiate between what we should do for the Lord and what we should not do. Instead, it brings everything we do in our lives under the umbrella of serving the Lord. This means that, whether we are awake or asleep, we are serving the Lord. As servants of the Lord, there are a few things we need to keep in mind:
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands. Husbands, love your wives. Children, obey your parents in all things. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. – Colossians 3:18-21
Although these commandments are given specifically to each role, we can see submission and love in a broader sense. The younger and those in dependent roles should submit to the elders and those in authority, while the elders and those in leadership positions should display love toward others. When we follow this pattern, it is equivalent to serving the Lord.
In every place—whether at home or at work, in a shop, or on the road—we will experience these broader categories. We will either be in a leading and guiding position or in a responsible, answerable position. We need to practice loving submission to one another and loving guidance and leadership toward those who depend on us.
Our prayer today is to help us practice this principle in our daily lives so that we can display the character of Jesus Christ in all areas of our lives. We know that there is a reward for serving the Lord. When we practice this truth, these rewards will be given by the Lord. Let us prayerfully align our lives according to this principle of submission and love.
Prayer
Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and grace. Thank You for reminding us today of the two important characteristics that we can practice in our daily lives: submission to the elderly and those in authority, and loving those who depend on us. Help us, Lord, to understand this truth and align ourselves to serve You properly and glorify Your name. I pray in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen!
