23-Aug-2024 – God’s words are not mere words but powerful words

1 Corinthians 4:20 – “For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.”
We are living in a technologically advanced and scientifically knowledgeable generation. In this time, the things of God and His Word are often seen merely as motivational concepts or community-oriented activities.
Because God’s miraculous interventions are not as frequent as they were in the early church, even among believers, there is a misconception about the power of God and His ability to intervene supernaturally.
To be honest, our core belief—regardless of which group you belong to or which church you attend—remains the same: We are saved by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, shed as the propitiation for our sins on the cross of Calvary. We also believe that the Lord will return to earth a second time to take His church to be with Him. This basic faith and understanding is powerful, isn’t it?
The burden of sin is incredibly heavy. There are people who commit suicide because of overpowering guilt and shame. Some become violent and destructive if their secret sinful lives are exposed. Careers are ruined, families are destroyed—sin is not just a concept but a heavy burden, a weapon of Satan to destroy our lives. Overcoming this is impossible without strength and power. But where can we find that power? Through faith in Jesus Christ.
Consider a child who has done something wrong and is afraid of their parents’ reaction. He may try to cover it up, but the mental burden of fear and guilt remains. However, if the child apologizes and is accepted by the parents, learning how to be more careful in the future, the next time something happens, they will have the courage to face their parents. In this way, the child overcomes the power of guilt through faith in their parents’ love and forgiveness.
Similarly, when we understand the character of our Heavenly Father, we approach Him with faith. When we ask for forgiveness, He forgives us and gives us another chance to correct our mistakes. This is how we overcome the power of sin and guilt.
But there is another level of power that comes through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ—the power to testify to the glory of God in a supernatural way. Imagine a child who is facing difficulties at school with other students. The father may not immediately intervene, allowing the child to handle the situation. However, when things get out of control, the father steps in to resolve the issue.
Another example: if a child has a fever, common medicine is given first. Only when the fever persists does a doctor get involved to diagnose and treat the issue. In the same way, God allows us to learn and practice the privileges we have in Christ through our faith. But when we struggle to stand firm in faith, that is when the intervention of our Heavenly Father becomes necessary. And because our God is supernatural, His intervention is often supernatural.
If we understand this distinction, we will not be overwhelmed when we have a supernatural experience, nor will we deny the supernatural manifestations in others’ lives. We represent the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is not just words without effect, but words that can be substantiated with powerful works.
So today, let us pray for God to enable us to experience the power of His Word in our lives. There is life in every word of God. In any situation, let us ask God for a word that speaks to that situation in prayer. That word comes with the power to change your circumstances, whether by naturally setting things right or by supernaturally transforming them. Whatever the case, the power of God’s Word will definitely be manifested in your life.
Prayer:
Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank You for teaching and encouraging us today about the power and life in Your Word. Help us to remember this truth always, and to stand on it so that we may experience and testify to Your power in our lives. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen!
