06-Aug-2024 – Attitude of a prayer warrior

But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. – Daniel 3:18

Our theme for this month is prayer. Prayer is an activity through which we put forth an earnest request to receive a favor or resource needed to fulfill a requirement. But it is also a means of communication to show loyalty, express gratitude, and seek comfort.

If I am in need of a favor and know that my best friend will extend a helping hand, I will display a positive attitude towards him. For example, if someone speaks ill of him, I will strongly oppose them. If someone accuses him, I will not believe it and will stand against the accusation. By standing up for him in this way, he will likely support me to the best of his ability in times of need.

This is the right attitude a believer must have if they want their prayers to be heard and answered. In Daniel 3, we see that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego respond with strong belief and loyalty towards God. They are confident that God will deliver them from the king’s hands, yet they remain steadfast even if He does not.

In the world, showing loyalty can result in reciprocal favor, though perhaps only to a limited extent. But our Lord is compassionate, loving, and gracious. If we heed the word of God and act according to His will out of love, confidence, and reverence—without expecting any favor in return—God will exalt us publicly.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood firm for the Lord in a difficult scenario. They knew that only God should be exalted, not the king. Despite the king’s attempts to elevate himself above God, these three men remained steadfast. As a result, they were cast into the fiery furnace, but the Lord whom they trusted did not abandon them.

Similarly, when we cultivate this attitude towards God, whether or not we specifically ask for something, God will respond mightily and faithfully. This is the essence of standing for the truth of God—an essential attitude for a praying believer. May God help us cultivate this attitude in our lives.

Prayer

Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and grace. Thank You for reminding us today of the attitude we need to have for our prayers to be answered. Help us to practice this attitude, I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen!
