20-Jul-2024 – Let your prayer be transformed into a powerful declaration

The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer. – Psalms 6:9
When I read this psalm, I see a transformation from a cry for mercy to a confident declaration. This is a very powerful transformation.
O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. – Psalms 6:1
If we observe and meditate on this verse, we can understand that God is not happy with the psalmist. This could be for something we don’t know, but God rebuked and allowed some situations as chastisement. Chastisement means a disciplinary action with the intention of correcting someone. In our practical lives, our parents and teachers often chastise us.
Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed. My soul is also sore vexed. – Psalms 6:2-3
Because of this chastisement, the psalmist is in a difficult situation which is tough for him to endure. Obviously, disciplinary action is painful. Now, the psalmist asks God to have mercy on him and return to him.
Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies’ sake. For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks? – Psalms 6:4-5
This suggests that the psalmist felt the hand of God, which usually works in everyday life, is not working in the same way. He felt that the LORD is not with him. That’s why he was asking God to return. This current situation gave his enemies a chance to talk bad about him and devise plans against him.
Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies. – Psalms 6:7
But at this moment, the prayer shifted gears, and this is what caught my surprised attention.
Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping. The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer. Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly. – Psalms 6:8-10
What made the psalmist suddenly change from asking for God’s mercy to declaring that the LORD heard his prayer and that the enemies cannot do anything to him? He must have believed something strongly.
And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God. – Leviticus 26:44
Our God, who loves us with an everlasting love, cannot and will not leave us in the enemy’s land to be destroyed. Because He is the LORD and our GOD. This is what the psalmist believed. The enemy’s land represents influence and power. In my land, I will have more influence. If something happens in my land, I will get support. If I am in the enemy’s land, I will not get support and I will be alone to defend myself.
So we can understand that our GOD will not leave us when we don’t have any support to defend ourselves. When the enemy, who wants our destruction and downfall, rages against us and devises plans against us, and when we don’t have any support to stand, our God will not leave us nor forsake us. Because He is our LORD and our GOD.
If you are going through any difficult situation, remember this truth and believe in it. If you believe, your prayer will be transformed into a powerful declaration.
Prayer
Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and grace. Thank You for reminding us today about Your love and character. Being our Father, You correct us by allowing some situations but definitely not to destroy us. When negative situations attack us and try to get the upper hand, You will not leave us but will definitely come to support us and fight our battles. Help us to remember this truth and always have faith in You, even during our chastisement. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen!
