04-Jul-2024 – God is your rock of salvation

Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation – Psalms 62:1

In this verse, the Psalmist declares his unwavering position in the midst of his situations. His soul waits for God’s salvation, knowing with full clarity and firm belief that deliverance comes from the Lord. This firm belief stems from his past experiences of God’s faithfulness.

He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved. – Psalms 62:2

In ancient times, people sought high places like rocks and hills during wars to avoid being easy targets and to have better visibility. The Psalmist metaphorically refers to God as his rock, emphasizing that in times of trouble, he immediately turns to the Lord for support. When we face negative situations, believing in God’s word is akin to taking support from a rock—we rely on His strength and wait for His intervention.

Consider David when he faced Goliath. He didn’t strategize or calculate his chances. His logic was simple: the God who delivered him from the bear and the lion would deliver him from this Philistine. His sole dependency was on God.

When we stand firm in our faith in God’s character, we experience His salvation. Salvation means being rescued from negative situations—be it danger, loss, calamity, or any adversity. In our modern world, we encounter many challenges: family disputes, toxic relationships, overbearing superiors, non-cooperative workplaces, financial loss, health issues, and spiritual struggles. When we believe that God is our rock of salvation, we will see His deliverance in these situations.

How God brings salvation, whether through natural means using people and resources around us or supernaturally through unexpected miracles, is not for us to worry about. One thing is certain: those who trust in Him will never be ashamed.

Prayer

Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank you for your grace and love. Thank you for reminding us of the importance of always keeping in mind your character—who you are and what you can do in our lives. This helps us stand strong in any situation without fear. Help us, Lord, to trust you completely and be testimonies of your faithfulness. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
