“And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,” – Ezekiel 6:1

Our God is a speaking God. He continually speaks to His children, always looking down to see what they are doing and whether there are any stumbling blocks hindering their progress.

When He finds something wrong in His children, His heart breaks, and He goes through a tug of war between His forgiveness, born out of love, and His judgment, born out of righteousness. God expresses His concerns through a leader He appoints, whether a priest, prophet, or even an ordinary person, as He pleases.

In this chapter, God speaks to the prophet Ezekiel about the impending wrath on the children of Israel. The reason is their persistent idolatry and drifting away from God.

Idols are man-made objects without any natural or supernatural ability. People worship them, offer sacrifices, and gain a false sense of satisfaction as if they have done these things for a god. This causes them to lose the opportunity to hear from the true living God.

Our God speaks through dreams, visions, and directly addresses our issues, providing counsel against the enemy’s attacks. To hear from God, our hearts and spirits must be attentive, rather than engaging in physical, ritualistic works.

Today, God speaks to us through His written word in the Bible, the exposition given with the inspiration of His Spirit in the church, and occasionally through dreams and visions.

To hear, understand, and respond to God, we must remove the idols in our lives. As long as idols occupy the altar’s position, we cannot hear God’s voice. Missing His voice means missing His leading, guidance, and the blessings and opportunities He has prepared for us.

Today, when God speaks to you, will you hear Him? Will you destroy the idols in your life?

Prayer:

Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and grace. Thank You for teaching me today about another important aspect of a successful life as a believer in Jesus Christ. Help me to identify and remove the idols in my life. Help me return to You without distractions, to hear and obey You. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen!
