08-Jun-2024 – riches of the world or the riches of the heaven?

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” – Revelation 3:22

This letter was written to the church of Laodicea, where the Lord expresses His displeasure. They are neither cold nor hot—neither fully committed to the world nor to the Word. They are trying to balance both.

Because of this lukewarm nature, they lack zeal for the work of the Lord and are unable to fully renounce worldly things. The reason for this is found in verse 17. This church is focused on becoming rich and increasing their goods to live in luxury. To achieve this, they often dilute the word of God.

As a result, God was furious, to the point of wanting to spit them out or cast them away. Yet, our God is compassionate and never closes the door for a comeback until the appointed day.

He urges this church to understand what true richness and a fulfilled life are. The Lord rebukes them to return to Him and His word, so they can find true treasures and lead a satisfied life. He tells them that He is standing at the door and knocking. If they hear His voice and open the door, He will sup with them, and they with Him.

As believers, we might find ourselves involved in day-to-day religious activities without having true fellowship with the Word and Spirit of the Lord. We might pursue worldly richness through ministry or focus solely on material possessions and opportunities to be in a wealthy circle, compromising God’s requirements.

God warns us today against this nature. He is still patiently waiting for us to respond to His call and allow Him to set things right in our lives.

Prayer

Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank you for your love. As you love us, you rebuke us when it is required. Thank you for teaching us today about the danger of chasing after worldly riches instead of heavenly treasures. Help us realize this threat and be attentive and submissive to your call. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen!
