05-Jun-2024 – Beware of pleasure centric doctrines

Published by Sunil Binkam on

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” – Revelation 2:29

Here, the Lord acknowledges the good things about this church. They had loving deeds towards their fellow believers, their service to the Lord was filled with faith and patience. Moreover, their later deeds were more significant than their first.

However, like Pergamos, this church also suffers from the ungodly influence of the spirit of Jezebel. This evil influence, disguised in the name of a prophet’s office, derails the faithful and righteous walk of the people.

Even for this group under evil influence, God gives space for repentance. If they repent within the given time, they can be saved; otherwise, punishment is inevitable.

God also finds another group within the church that remains uninfluenced by this evil. They kept themselves away from these things and did not even bother to know the details of what was happening in the evil group. To them, God says He will not let any other burden come upon them.

The Lord encourages them to hold fast to what they currently have by not involving in the evil doctrines.

Applying this to our personal lives, we might be very devoted to the service of the Lord, and our faith might have increased since our early stages. However, there is always a chance of being influenced by materialistic doctrines that emphasize worldly pleasures in the name of blessings.

God wants us to understand the difference and keep ourselves away from these doctrines, walking carefully in this world.

The characteristics of the Lord highlighted for this situation are eyes like a flame of fire and feet like fine brass. The eyes represent that God sees everything, but the fire burns the evil. Brass represents righteous judgment.

By remembering these aspects of our Lord, we need to walk steadfastly in faith.

Prayer

Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank you for your love and grace. Thank you for teaching us today about the importance of keeping ourselves away from distracting doctrines. Help us to know the sound doctrine and adhere to it. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
