“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.” – Revelation 2:17

In this letter to Pergamos, the Lord addresses the dangerous situations they are facing. He acknowledges that they are living in the dwelling place of Satan, meaning they are constantly subjected to plans, traps, and attacks. Despite this, they have remained faithful and patient in waiting for the Lord.

However, the Lord has a complaint against them. They are entertaining wrong doctrines, which will lead them astray, like the teachings of Balaam and the Nicolaitans. The Lord warns them to reject these false doctrines, or He will have to intervene and fight against them.

If we examine our personal lives, we may find that we have a strong desire to do the work of the Lord, even in tough circumstances. For example, we may be ready to spread the gospel and face persecution. But we might also be entertaining wrong doctrines, such as man worship or tradition worship.

God is telling us that anything against His word and the gospel should not be entertained, even if it seems acceptable because the person promoting it appears anointed.

Prayer

Dear loving heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and grace. Thank You for teaching us today about the importance of checking and validating our beliefs and practices against Your word and the revelation of the Holy Spirit. Help us to be careful and not to entertain any wrong doctrines. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.
