15-May-2024 – Your king preserves you and restores you

For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.” – Mark 6:2

In this verse, we see an earthly and wicked king. Herod married his brother’s wife, and because of this, John the Baptist warned him. Herodias, Herod’s wife, held a grudge against John and wanted him dead.

To satisfy Herodias, Herod imprisoned John. Although Herod feared John and respected him as a holy man, he feared Herodias even more. Herodias’s plan was to kill John, and despite Herod’s reluctance, he felt pressured to fulfill his promise made at his birthday celebration to Herodias’ daughter, leading to John’s execution.

Now, let us remember another scenario:

Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face – Job 1:9-11

Here we see another wicked plot against a man of God. This time, the king is God Himself. Satan tries to undermine Job’s reverence for God, accusing Job of being faithful only because of the blessings he received. Satan claims that if those blessings were taken away, Job would curse God.

God allows Satan to destroy all that Job has except his life, testing Job’s faith. Unlike Herod, God does not fall for the trick of Satan but uses it to testify to the sincerity of Job, ultimately glorifying Himself.

The earthly wicked king could not save John, despite being a king. But the heavenly King saved Job and restored him with double the blessings.

Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things will be added unto you.” This makes sense because our heavenly King will not abandon us. He delivers us from evil plots and restores us manifold if we suffer any loss.

Prayer:

Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and grace. Thank You for being our wonderful King. Only because of Your love and grace do I have the opportunity to experience the best in life. Help me to understand and resist the plans of the wicked. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
