And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, -Luke 8:1

Today is the first day of another new month. First I praise and thank the Lord for enabling us to see another month this year. Last 121 days he protected us with His love, grace and mercy. The theme of this month is “The kingdom of God”. I strongly believe that God would take us through a glorious journey of revelations from this topic. Let’s now get into the meditation.

In the verse, we see the ministry of Jesus Christ. The main objective is to preach and share the gospel of the kingdom of God. What is a kingdom? For me, when I hear the word kingdom, I immediately remember a physical country with a king as the ruler and some royal happenings around based on the stories I learnt from the childhood.

The greek word used in this verse for kingdom is, “basileia”. The meaning of this verse is as below:

  1. Kingdom: A territory subject to the rule of a king.
  2. Sovereignty: The ultimate authority which does not get influenced by any external factor
  3. Royal Power: Royal power typically refers to the authority and powers held by a monarch or a royal family in a monarchy.

So we can see a two fold meaning of this word. First one is a territory or the region of authority and the second one is the nature of the authority.

The verse we read was talking about the kingdom of God. So it was talking about the territory where the authority of God is applicable and what is the nature of that authority.

The Jews were waiting even in the time of Jesus for the Messiah who establishes the kingdom of God with the people of Israel. But our God who loves everyone with everlasting love, planned to gather everyone in Christ Jesus and to translate us into his kingdom.

hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: -Colossians 1:13

So, everyone who believed the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ, believed the virgin birth, death on the cross, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, will be translated into the kingdom of Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God.

That means, we will be under the sovereignty or authority of Jesus Christ. Our life it self is the territory of His authority, and He is our king. In coming days during this month, God will reveal many aspects of the kingdom of God.

For today we learnt that the kingdom has two aspects, one is the territory of the authority and the second is the nature of the authority. We also learnt that, our lives are the territory of the authority of God. So, God operates in our life.

Like how the king has access, and authority over everything that is happening in a kingdom, Jesus Christ will also have access and authority on everything that happens in our life. This is a powerful revelation and can change the way we perceive and handle things in our life.

May God help us to grasp the truth about His kingdom throughout this month.

Prayer

Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for your love and grace. Thank you for your purpose to teach about your kingdom. Help us to grasp the truth, the deeper truths. Help us to have ears to hear and heart to understand. I pray in the name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen!
