21-Apr-2024 – God is your shelter, strong tower and prepared his mercy and truth to preserve you

For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy – Psalms 61:3
Psalms 61 presents a unique situation. The first two verses are of a desperate prayer. We can understand that the psalmist is in a very big trouble and his heart is overwhelmed because of his current situations. He wanted God’s help to get onto a rock which is very high so that he would not be caught by the enemy. Which means, he was so desperate to get out and not to be caught in the situations.
Now from third verse onwards, he remembers how God was with him in his previous situations. This is very much important in a believer’s life. He says to God, “ you have been a shelter for me and a strong tower from the enemy.” So what he was saying or declaring is, Oh God, you helped me in my previous dangerous situations. You became my shelter. A shelter represents a temporary accommodation when something happened to our regular dwelling place.
A regular dwelling place could mean a happy life that experiences the comfort, safety, joy with family, career or anything that makes us happy and safe. When something happens, that joy will be disturbed. If something unexpected happened in terms of finances, health, or family members, immediately our safe feeling and comfort zone is disturbed.
During this kind of time, the psalmist says, God became his shelter and he became a strong tower from his enemies. That means, God sent comforting words, help, guidance or supernatural provision to meet the need of that situation. He did not allow anything to happen that shatters his joy.
If you observe the whole Psalm, we can clearly understand the believer was in deep trouble. But his prayer was 30% and 70% was remembering how God dealt with him previously and how he will deliver now and how the believer would continue in the presence of God with singing and praises.
This is the life of a believer who experiences the true relationship with God. God is not someone who sits on a throne in an elite room, covered with unreachably closed doors or fortified walls, but God is your creator who begotten you, your provider who prepares and gives everything for you and your protector who goes to any extent to keep you safe and sound.
So today what is the wonderful work of God that we publish? God is your shelter, strong tower and prepared his mercy and truth to preserve you!
Prayer
Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for your wonderful love and grace. Thank you for reminding me through the psalmist’s life, how I should face my situations in life. They may be severe, difficult to bear, but when I know what my God can do and did do in my life, I can turn my fear into joy and sing praises. Because of the assured help that I get from you. Help me Lord to cultivate this life style. I pray in the name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen!
