for them that honour me I will honour – 1 Samuel 2:30

Today we are publishing the wonderful work of God that is available for every believer. This chapter provides two examples of this statement. An example to understand how God honour those who honoured him. Another example to understand how he deals with people who does not honour him.

First let us see the positive example. This chapter begins with Hannah’s prayer and worship. We all know the reason for her great rejoice. She was barren without children for many years. But she went to the house of God every year without fail.

When her situation is not happy along with the provocation of Peninnah, she believed that except God no one can help her. That’s why she poured out all her burden in the presence of the Lord God. Not only that she vowed a vow to the LORD.

And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. -1 Samuel 1:11

Hannah was barren that means she did not have children. But she says, if God gives her a child, she will give him back to the LORD. This is how Hannah honoured God. If you remember Abraham, God tested him whether he will sacrifice Isaac or not. Now Hannah directly sacrificed her child to the LORD.

God removed her shame, and blessed her with 3 sons and 2 daughters.

Now lets see the negative example. During the time of Elkana and Hannah, the sons of Eli were the priests. But they were not honouring the LORD but taking the best portions of the offerings of the children of Israel without even before they are offered unto the LORD.

Eli called his sons and just warned them softly about what he heard and told them that is not good. But he did not take things into his hands. He did not pour out his anger on them. He did not put them to shame or punish them or nothing of that sort. But he kept silent when they did not obey. In this way, neither Eli nor his sons honoured God. Because of this, the priesthood itself was removed from his house forever.

In our practical life God was so gracious and gave his only begotten Son as the sacrifice for our sins. Now, when we honour God, by obeying the word he gave to us through his son and submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit and live a testimonial life that brings glory to the LORD, he will bless us abundantly.

But if we don’t walk according to the word and ignore and grieve the Holy Spirit, the God of opportunities gives again a chance, but once the time is over, you will lose the opportunity and will be destined to the hell for eternity.

Let us understand this wonderful work of God in our lives and set our things right in His eyes and build our lives to be a blessing and glory to our God.
