And he said unto them, Where is your faith? – Luke 8:25

This verse is a very familiar verse and multiple time we might have word in our churches to encourage us to have faith in troublesome situations.

When we look at this verse, Jesus along with disciples got into a ship and crossing the sea of Galilee. When Jesus was asleep, the storm came down and the disciples are scared to death. They were not able to control the ship but as if nothing happened, Jesus was asleep.

This situation can be applied in our practical life in many scenarios. For example, if a family is looking out for a match for their daughter, to give in marriage. Every match had a huge wish list and makes the family bankrupt. The depression, confusion and the pressure from relatives slowly mounts up and the family was not able to take it. To that family God is asking “Where is your faith?”

Another example to consider, there is a person who took a loan to meet the house needs and waiting for his salary to pay some of the loan amount. Instead of a salary, there were rumors in his company about the recent recession and unexpected terminations that are happening. In this situation, this person started panicking like anything and fell sick and his mental and emotional conditions came to low levels. To that person today God is asking, “Where is your faith?”.

God is asking “Where is your faith”? But how can we have faith? On what basis we can have faith? We are affected by the situation right? Lets understand the situation of the disciples and then let us try to check our life through that.

Few points to highlight, the disciples were having Jesus with them. And Jesus was sleeping. That means, the disciples are the full in charge of the situation there, and no help from Jesus. By that time, these disciples were already given the authority and power over every sickness, evil spirits and anything that is opposite to the kingdom of God.

When the situation became difficult and negative, the disciples forgot that Jesus was with him and he is the Lord of all. Also they forgot that, they have authority over every situation. They did not even try but surrendered to the situation.

In our life as we saw in those examples, we will not even try to stand strong but we will surrender to the emotional pressure that gets build up in those situations. But if we have Jesus in our life, that means, we have daily prayer fellowship with him, word fellowship with him and fellowship with Holy Spirit and the church we belong to, then we are having the supply of spiritual resources when needed, just like disciples have Jesus in the ship.

We all are given the power and authority in the name of God. As the Holy Spirit indwells in us, we have the opportunity to navigate through the situations, how difficult they may be, because we know that, our Lord loves us with an everlasting love. And those who abides in him, will prosper in everything.

Now, the question asked by God makes sense, “Where is your faith? Where is my faith? Where is our faith?

Prayer

Dear loving Father, thank you for reminding us about again about having faith in every situation. Because, you are with us and you gave every spiritual resource in Christ, to be available to us in our daily life. But most of the time, we feel the walk with Christ as a religious walk instead of a practical walk. Help us to come out of this thinking and lead us to have a relationship with you to trust your authority and leading in every part of our life, I pray in the name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen!
