19-Mar-2024 – You need faith to truly confess and stand again in the Lord
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. -1 John 1:9
This is the most memorized verse in the Bible. The hope this verse gives to a believer who has fallen, is tremendous. But how can a believer sin?
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. -1 John 1:8
But Jesus came here and died for our sins only right? as we believed in this truth, we became born again and became the children of God and the holy saints right? Let’s try to understand.
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: -Ephesians 4:11-12
In this verse, we can see that the purpose of a church fellowship among the believers. And the reason for various offices given in the church. It is “perfecting of the saints”. It does not talk about “perfect saints”. This compels us to know what is a saint then. A saint means a holy man. Holy means, separated unto.
God is holy because He separated himself for the salvation of his children. He wanted us to be holy because, we should separated from anything that does not please God and only please God and glorify Him alone.
So when you read now, the offices in the church are given to the believers who are seperated unto God for being perfected in future. So, obviously there is still something that needs to be perfected and our acts would be imperfect and immature and weak. This enables us to be prone to fall for the flesh, world around us, the evil powers against us etc.
That’s why we cannot say that we are sinless as long as we are on this earth. But what is the difference of being a believer and a non-believer?
Its the difference of a student who is studying in a university or a college vs an ordinary person who does not study anywhere. During the course, the student might be failing in some aspects of the curriculum, fail in the exams. But there is a provision of teaching and correction. But for an ordinary man who does not have his education, not even know that there is a curriculum.
Once the graduation or masters is completed, then the student is eligible to be employed in the intended positions. In the same way a believer who is a student in the school of the Holy Spirit, will study and gradually made perfect unto the image of Christ Jesus. This is a truth that we should not forget. Then only John 1:9 can help us to stand again otherwise it becomes just a temple ritual.
That’s why when you are entices, trapped, influenced to commit sin, your faith in your Lord, and his promises, and his word gives you hope and makes you to confess and start again. This is the gift of God for us to come back on the track.

Prayer
Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for your love and grace. Thank you teaching today regarding the faith that I need to have during the fallen situations. Because I am in the world and flesh. I am constantly attacked by both. Failure in resisting will only result in being sinful. But you are loving God and provided this opportunity to stand again. Help me not to abuse or misuse this opportunity. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
