06-Mar-2024 – Faith is the eye of our spirit
we walk by faith, not by sight – 2 Corinthians 5:7
A physical walk needs legs to walk but our eyes are key to seeing the path we walk. Our path may have diversions and obstacles. But how do our eyes help? they would just capture the scene in front of them and pass it on to the brain. The brain by previous experiences, and learning determines what steps to take. whether to walk, climb jump, etc.
Now if you consider faith, it helps the same way to your spirit, as eyes to your body. As a born-again believer, our spirits are revived to connect with the Holy Spirit and learn the things of God. The word of God cultivates the faith in us and enables us to trust God and his ways in our life’s situations. This leads to an experience which is also known as testimony. This testimony make our faith more stronger thus enabling our spirit to depend on God’s leading through our faith in Jesus Christ.
If we draw some more uses of eyes, they help to observe the things on the way when we walk. For example, if we are going to our work place we also see some new shops, new advertisement hoardings and learn some more things on our way. In the same way, when we walk by faith led by the Spirit, we will learn more aspects of God.
For an example, we are affected by some disease and undergoing some treatment. During this time, our faith and focus obviously on observing how God will heal us, because we will display faith for our healing. But during the same time, you will meet some other person who is demotivated and lost all hopes because of critical illness. Being a believer, you would pray for him, encourage him and share the gospel of Jesus Christ to him. Now you are experiencing by faith that God used your situation to encourage someone else.
This learning will enable you to trust God in some more difficulties because, now you will wait for an opportunity to witness God to someone by standing strong by faith in your difficult situation.
This is what Paul was talking about irrespective of the physical situations they will walk by faith without minding them. Because they knew that the God is in control and any opportunity is a golden opportunity to witness Christ to others. May God help us to develop our faith to become our main sight in our life.
Prayer
Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for your grace and love. Thank you for teaching about the faith being eyes to our spirit. Thank you for teaching by comparing it with physical eyes. Help us Lord to trust you and then walk by faith in spirit. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
