That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ – 1 Peter 1:7
Gold is purified through a process called refining, which involves exposing the raw gold to high temperatures in a furnace. This intense heat causes impurities and other metals to separate from the gold, leaving behind a more purified form. The molten gold is then cooled and shaped into the desired final product.
Now faith is compared to gold and the trial of our faith to the furnace. Obviously gold cannot stay in its form when it is exposed to the heat of the furnace.
When we are in a troublesome situation, when every door of help is gone, we being a human will definitely break.
In case of gold, a goldsmith wantedly exposed that to high temperature not to destroy it, but to destroy the impurities of the gold.
Now in our case our goldsmith is God himself. He lets us to be exposed to those situations to get rid of unwanted things from our life.
Foran easy example, you have a lot of friends you share lots of fun together. Suddenly you ran into a financial downfall. Then only the real friends will stay at least to morally support you. But all the time passing guys would leave you.
These kinds of situations will help to really understand the real good things and unwanted junk in our life.
For a believer, the only good thing in life is the fellowship with the true living God, who loves beyond your imagination.
In golds scenario, the gold was still in the hands of the goldsmith. After he made sure the impurities are gone, he cools it.
If you are in the hands of your goldsmith who is God himself, even in your most severe troubling time, he will bring you out of it for sure
. But once you are out, you will be made as a ornament of value and use. That can only be possible with that furnace experience.
So your and my faith requires trials and testing. Dont leave God in your troubles, because he will never leave you there.
Prayer
Dear loving heavenly Father thank you for your love and grace. Thank you for reminding me about the furnace experience in life for my faith. A secret is, if I am going through a furnace experience, that means I am going to have an ornament and value exalting experience as well. Help me to stand strong in my trials of faith, I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
