Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen – Hebrews 11:1
This month the theme is faith and our good Lord enabled us to start this month with a wonderful word which defines faith. Faith is the substance of the things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen.
That means, faith gives shape to the things we are not seen yet but we believe that we receive or see them in future. But today we will touch upon a rarely touched aspect of this subject. We know that the faith is a gift of the Spirit.
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal… To another faith by the same Spirit – 1 Corinthians 12:7,9
Now If God is giving it as a gift to men, that means in the first place it must be with God right? Like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness everything are the characteristics of God. So the faith is characteristic of God. Lets examine few verses.
He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel – Numbers 23:21
But if we go few chapters before, we can see God is angry on the people of Israel.
And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. – Numbers 21:5
Practically and to the physical eyes, the sin of the Israel was visible. God was so furious about it and he sent fiery serpents as well. But when it comes to the future, he did not want them to be perished. He did not want them to be consumed by his wrath. That’s why he said – “I did not find any iniquity in Jacob”.
Whatever God spoke on that day through Bilam is the evidence of things not seen and the substance of the things hoped for. Even for us, God did not want us to be perished in our sins. That’s why he chosen us in Jesus Christ, even before the foundations of the earth. That means even before we were born.
Now in our life, today you might be struggling with a sin that you could not overcome since ages. There is something you want to do for God but not able to stand strong for it. Or many things you wanted to correct and be righteous before God but could not do it. But your faith can shape your future.
Your faith in Jesus Christ as the only way, truth and life to go to the Father in heaven and to receive anything and everything from God can shape your future. As God looked towards us through Jesus to bless us, let us also look at God through Jesus to have a relationship with him. If you understand this secret, no guilt can overtake you.
Prayer
Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for your love and grace. Thank you for your characteristics that you gave as gifts to us. Thank you for the gifts of Spirit and fruits of Spirit. I am not worthy to receive it, but my unworthiness cannot stop your love and grace. Help me to be transformed into the image of Jesus as soon as possible, I pray this humble prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
