30-Jan-2024 – Tithing is a seed

Published by Sunil Binkam on

Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it – Malachi 3:10

The words in this verse are spoken by the God himself. He is talking about the “tithing” being an important aspect of a believer. It is not just a command but a command with a blessing attached to it. Just like the command of honoring the father and mother to receive a long life as blessing. If we remember what Jesus told about tithe –

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone – Mathew 23:23

In this verse Jesus says, “these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone”. That means, you should continue doing your tithing but more importantly you must be mindful of the law, judgement, mercy and faith. Without these your tithing is not complete or cannot produce the blessings.

If we look at tithing as a seed, then obviously the fruit that we want to reap is the blessings of God. But the ground is the relationship between God and you. The stones or thorns are not giving importance to the commandments of God, judgement, mercy and faith but tithing as a religious ceremony.

But once we clear these stones or thorns that means, if we align our life to be in compliance with the commandments of God, fearing the judgement of God and depending on the mercy of God and displaying the faith in God then our relationship with God will be like a fertile ground. In that state when we tithe, it will be accepted by God and be rewarded with following fruits.

  1. An overflowing blessing (Malachi 3:10)
  2. Our work of hands will not be devoured by enemy as God protects (Malachi 3:11)
  3. There will not be any loss in the works of your hand (Malachi 3:11)
  4. Your blessing will be a testimony before the nations (Malachi 3:12)

What a great God we have, he is the one who blessed us in the first place to get a career or a livelihood to earn resources. Out of that if we give honestly in a good relationship with God, again he will bless abundantly for that sake.

Prayer
