27-Apr-2024 – Circumcision of heart is not a one time activity
For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. -Romans 2:28-29
Today we talk about one more important work of God by giving a sign to Abraham which is the circumcision. We know that all the things in the old testament were given as a shadow or precursor to the to be revealed things in Jesus Christ.
The process of circumcision is not just a ritual but it is a symbol of sacrifice, commitment to God. It is painful process but it represents the commitment and dedication to God.
In the new testament, circumcision is not physical but spiritual. The circumcision happens in the heart and the spirit.
In the physical scenario, cutting the foreskin means, willingly giving up the worldly pleasures for the sake of God. If we study some medical texts, we can understand the function of the fore skin during the reproduction system. And the reproduction system is the most corrupted area in a human life.
But the actually issue is not with the foreskin. But the people of the old testament were not yet ready and the revelation of Jesus Christ was not yet given. That’s why they were given a temporary shadow circumcision process to keep the idea that they belong to God.
Once the revelation of Jesus Christ was given, the will of the Father was revealed through him. That is, heart is the most corrupt thing in human’s life. From there only all the evil things emanate. But God wanted to transform all of us into the perfect image of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.
That’s why whoever accepted Jesus Christ as his saviour, to them He gave the power to become the children of God, and he kept the Holy Sprit with them to lead them, teach them, guide them and work in them. Understanding this truth and obeying to the leading of the Holy Spirit is the circumcision of the heart.
Because, you are sacrificing the leading of your flesh for the sake of the leading of the Holy Sprit. Which proclaims that you belong to God through Jesus Christ.
Is not the wonderful work that God did by giving this command to the Jewish patriarchs, to carry on the shadow till it is brought to light and revealed perfection?
Prayer
Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for your love and grace. Thank you for teaching today the importance of real circumcision. Thank you for teaching us that it is the sacrificing flesh for the sake of the spirit. The fleshly circumcision is once in a life time. But spiritual circumcision is a daily responsibility. Help us to live up to the standards. I pray in the name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen!
