23-Jun-2024 – Keep the covenant before you

And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the LORD your God. -Joshua 3:9
As we have learned many times this month, our God speaks to us and is continuously involved in our lives. We are the children of the living God. In the verse we referred to, Joshua was speaking to the Israelites about the words of God for their situation.
The Israelites were about to start their journey to conquer the land of Canaan. God appointed Joshua as a leader over them to receive instructions from Him and lead the people. God told them about an important aspect to be particularly careful about during such crucial moments in life.
Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan. -Joshua 3:11
The ark of the covenant, as its name suggests, is to remind them of a covenant—a covenant between the Most High God and the people of Israel. In this important situation, the ark moves in front of the Israelites. So, the Israelites can see it and remember the covenant. The covenant reminds them that they are progressing not because of their might but by the grace and power of the God of that covenant.
In our lives, the covenant with God is established through the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. The covenant is recorded and given to us as the word of God in the Bible. God wants us to remember this by reading and keeping the word of God in our hearts so that we can realize that whatever we do, it is only by the grace and power of God.
And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon a heap. -Joshua 3:13
The land of Canaan was vast for the Israelites to conquer, and there were various kings and kingdoms. Their strength and number were unknown to the people of Israel. But God gave them a sign to put their faith in and proceed with a positive attitude.
Yes, the enemies were large in number and stronger as well. But the one on their side was stronger than the enemies. God not only told them to proceed but also gave them a reason to trust Him by making a way in the midst of the river.
In our practical lives, there are Herculean tasks that we cannot believe we can even attempt. They could be in careers, businesses, families, and any other area of our lives. There might be a Jordan that you need to cross in the first place to even move further.
But today, your God is telling you to keep the covenant before you. He says that He chose you to bear witness to the greatness of God. In our situation, God is going to perform a breakthrough that becomes your first step to move forward and accomplish the plan and promise of God in your life. If you hear Him, respond positively.
Prayer
Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and grace. Thank You for reminding us today about the importance of remembering the covenant. Yes, Lord, whoever believes in Thy Son Jesus Christ, to them You gave the authority to be called Your children and to claim all the provisions of an heir. Help me, Lord, to truly understand the truth and believe in You in every situation. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen!
