22-Jun-2024 – God speaks sometimes by reminding us His previous work

Published by Sunil Binkam on

“O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.”
Psalm 22:2,11

In these verses, the Psalmist expresses a profound sense of distress and helplessness. He feels abandoned, with no human aid available, and thus, he cries out to God, seeking divine intervention.

“Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.”
Psalm 22:4

Here, the Psalmist recalls how his ancestors placed their trust in God and experienced deliverance. This recollection serves as a reminder that God’s miraculous interventions often follow acts of trust in His plans. By remembering this truth, the Psalmist reaffirms his own trust in God, confident that he too will be delivered.

“For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.”
Psalm 22:24

Despite being surrounded by mockery and hardship, the Psalmist declares the steadfast character of God. He recalls how, in the midst of affliction, God has not turned away but has heard the cries of the suffering. This remembrance is a way God speaks to us, bringing to our minds His past acts of grace and mercy, reinforcing our trust in Him.

In our difficult times, God often reminds us of His past works of grace and mercy as a way of speaking to us. This reminder serves to bolster our trust, ensuring us that just as He delivered before, He will do so again. When God brings these memories to our minds, it is His way of reassuring us of His continued presence and deliverance.

Prayer:

Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for your love and grace. Thank you for teaching us today about another way you speak to us. Help us to hear your voice, even in our hopeless situations. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.
