21-May-2024 – Seek the kingdom and righteousness

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you – Matthew 6:33
In this context Jesus was teaching about the right attitude to live on this earth. He suggested not to worry about what we eat, drink and wear. These three areas denotes the basic needs of our life.
That means Jesus was teaching not to worry about the basic needs, your Father in heaven knows that you need them to live on this earth. He gave them to the birds of the air also.
This statement gives a comparison between us and the rest of the creatures. The basic needs of every living creature is taken care of but God. But there is something that humans only need to take care of, that is “seeking the kingdom and righteousness”.
Seeking the kingdom is striving in every way to learn, understand and move towards the kingdom of God.
Seeking the righteousness is striving in every way to learn, understand and pursue what makes you eligible to be in the kingdom.
When we seek the kingdom of God and the righteousness of God, our needs will be satisfied with the best of the things.
The righteousness is imputed on us through the faith in Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurrection and accept the lordship over our life. The way to the kingdom of God is Jesus Christ himself. Yesterday we learnt, that every one who calls Jesus Lord cannot enter the kingdom, but who does according to His words only will enter the kingdom.
The words of Jesus are given to us through the Bible. To reveal the meaning of the word in various contexts of our daily life, the Holy Spirit is with us. When we read the word and submit to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are actually seeking the kingdom and it’s authority and operation in our life.
Prayer
Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for your love and grace. Thank you for revealing again the importance of aligning our thought process and the way of life in the kingdom orientation. Help us to read the word and understand the meaning to implement in our day to day life. I pray in the name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen!
