Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have – Luke 8:18

Yesterday we were taught about the faith hindering plans and tricks by the devil. In that message, a key principle we touched upon was, “by hearing the word of God, we will get faith”.

Today God is reminding us about taking care of how we are hear. Let’s submit to the leading and understand the lesson.

When you hear, two things are happening according to Luke 8:18

  1. Whosoever has, he shall be given.
  2. Whosoever has not, from him shall be taken even that which, he feels that he has.

First scenario, consider I am in a need of a break through in career. I am desperately looking for an opportunity to advance my career in the corporate ladder. When I read my Bible or when I attended a church service, I received a word saying “The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever. -Psalms 37:29”.

Now, in my situation, I felt this word is speaking to me directly. A land represents a place to live in. Inheriting a land means, till then that is not with me. But I will inherit and live there happily. So I felt yes, my career advancement will be sure and I will enjoy it. But another question also, came to my mind, whether I am righteous or not. Then in my heart, I heard that I am made righteous and I have an imputed righteousness of Lord Jesus because of my faith. Then by hearing the word I received, and then hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit regarding the explanation, if I keep my faith in that word, definitely it will happen.

Second scenario, consider the same situation of career advancement. As land represents literally real estate thing, either I would look for buying a property which is not the will of God or I will just ignore it thinking this word is not for me. Suppose, I understood by the grace of God, this verse is for me only regarding my career advancement. But the last question, whether I am righteous or not, made me disappointed because of my spiritual indiscipline, some weak moments and my focus shifted towards my works and then, could not claim the word in my situation. Then what happens? I cannot move forwards in the desired position. Instead I may get a negative surprise.

This is one lesson taught by God through this portion today. Based on how ye hear, your faith will either increase or reduce. Trust the love of God and hear the voice of Holy Spirit and then you will always hear for your good.

Your Faith depends on how your hear God!

Prayer

Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for your love and grace. Thank you for teaching today regarding the way we hear your word in our situations. You are our Father, the Creator, Provider and the Protector. You always plan for the goodness in our life. Help me to hear in the right way so that I can build my life on the rock. I pray in the name of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, Amen!
