19-Jul-2024 – Remember your relationship with your God in your situation

But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. – Micah 4:1

This verse marks a dramatic shift from the somber tone of the preceding chapter. In Micah 3:12, we read about the divine judgment upon Jerusalem:Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

Here, the punishment for Israel’s sins is laid out starkly: Jerusalem will be reduced to ruins, its glory turned to desolation. However, the contrast introduced by the word “but” in Micah 4:1 is powerful. It signifies hope and restoration following judgment. The same mountain that was brought low will be exalted above all others, drawing people to it once more.

The sins of the house of Israel brought about this severe punishment, as highlighted in Micah 1:5-6:

For the transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Judah? are they not Jerusalem? Therefore I will make Samaria as an heap of the field, and as plantings of a vineyard: and I will pour down the stones thereof into the valley, and I will discover the foundations thereof.

Despite their transgressions, God’s promise to gather the remnant and restore them remains. This underscores a crucial truth: once you are a child of God, you remain His child. As Apostle Paul writes, nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:35-39).

Today, you may find yourself in a situation that feels like the lowest point in your life. It might seem as though nothing is going right. In these moments, reflect on whether you have truly placed your trust in the Lord. If you have, then know that there is an appointed time for your deliverance.

The Israelites, despite their repeated falls into sin and consequent subjugation by their enemies, were always delivered by God’s chosen leaders. Likewise, in your lowest moments, remember that you belong to God, and He will never leave you nor forsake you. David understood this deeply, which is why he could praise God even in the darkest times.

Prayer:

Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for your love and grace. Thank you for reminding me of your everlasting love and your eternal longing to have me with you. Even though I stray, you never leave me nor forsake me. Help me to understand this truth and stand strong by faith. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen!
