Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven – Matthew 5:16

In this verse it is written about “our light”. What is light? How do we get it? If we observe the verse carefully, it is written – “glorify your Father which is in heaven”.

This highlights the relationship of those who has light in them, with the heavenly Father.How can one get into a relationship of child and father with God?

But as many as received him (Jesus), to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name – John 1:12

Now we can understand that everyone who received Jesus will become a child of God. But how can a child of God has light in him?

In him (Jesus) was life; and the life was the light of men – John 1:4

The life in Jesus which was given to us is the light for us.

that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh – 2 Corinthians 4:11

Not only this verse but from John’s gospel ans epistles we can understand that Jesus lives in us. His life will be manifested in us. And his life is light.

That’s how we get light in us.Now as per the first verse we meditated, it is written to let our light shine before men. A true light can be seen shining but how can we identify this light?

For the fruit of the Spirit (or light) is in all goodness and righteousness and truth – Ephesians 5:9

That means, our light can be see ln by the fruit that comes out of us in the form of goodness, righteousness and truth.These fruits are produced because of the light we received by receiving Jesus as our saviour. These cannot be produced without him.

Now once you have him, the transformation in your life is to be seen by everyone around you. But not to hide it. When everyone around you witness the transformation then they will glorify the God.

Now the question is, “do you have light in you?”. If you have the light, it will shine. Because it is natural for light to shine.

Prayer

Thank you Lord for your wonderful love and grace. Help us to remember always that we are your children. And we bear light in us because of Jesus. Help us to let that light shine before people so that, they will glorify your name. I pray in the name of Jesus , Amen!
