Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it – Matthew 7:14
Today we are publishing another wonderful work of God as part of our theme of this month, “publish the works of God”.
When I read this portion I remembered a well known and important verse from the old testament.
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live – Deuteronomy 30:19
This verse also talks about the choice God gave to his people. He explained both the lives. The blessed life and the cursed life. He recommended the blessed life but he left the will to choose to us only.
Even in the very beginning God gave the same choice.
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die – Genesis 2:16-17
Here God told Adam to eat from every tree except the tree of the knowledge. That means the tree of life also is allowed. But man chose the knowledge.
I used to have one question, if tree of knowledge is not good for man, why God created it? Now I believe that I got the answer.
The knowledge of good and evil is good only. But the tree of life gives the eternal life. If we do a deeper study, we can understand the tree of life represents Jesus and Holy Spirit.
Jesus is life and Holy Spirit quickens to live. That means without having the connection with God, without having relationship with God, without having His Spirit in us, if we have knowledge that is death.
But if you have the relationship with God like Jesus did, then your knowledge is very valuable and peaceable. But God gives choices to honour our free will to choose. God loves to play it fair. If God does not give us both bad and good choices, then there is no meaning that we are willingly good and willingly love him.
Anyways, in the verse God kept a narrow way and a broad way. In the narrow way is a restricted way and the broad way is unrestricted. To walk in the narrow way, you need to carefully find it. But the broad way is obviously visible, available, attractive and pulls you so easily.
God today reminds us about his wonderful work. He created a narrow way and that way is the only way to reach the Father. Jesus is that way. To find him, to accept him, to follow him, you need to deny yourself. That’s why this is a narrow way.
But if you walk in this way, you will end up in life for sure.
If you are touched by God, don’t be stubborn to submit into his hands. Choose the narrow way and live.
Prayer
Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for your loving teaching today. Thank you for creating the choices for me. You wanted me to willingly love you follow you and glorify you. That’s why you gave alternatives and asked me to choose. Your way is open for me even if I am in a disparate condition. But help me to find it. I want to live Lord. I pray in the name of my Lord and saviour Jesus Christ, Amen!
