15-Apr-2024 – God’s Word Stands, Even in Our Deepest Trials
Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria. -2 Kings 7:1
Today we see the importance of publishings the works of God before they happen. Publishing or proclaiming the future works of God is also called prophesying. In the portion we read, Elisha the prophet was publishing the words of God about a situation to the king.
One important thing to remember in this kind of “publishing the works of God”, these works will be happening either in the life of the direct hearer of the message or in the lives of the people led or nurtured by the hearer of this message.
In this verse, the king of the Israel leads the people of Israel. The country was in a thick famine. The king heard the scary scenarios happening during the famine. In this context, the prophet Elisha tells the king that, by tomorrow a miracle will happen and the people will be fed.
When we are surrounded by visible negative things for a very long time and suddenly if we hear that by tomorrow things will change, it is a very unlikely to believe. But God is not human being to tell lies or just to play with our emotions.
Elisha published the work of God that is going to be unveiled by tomorrow and no one could even think about the possible way for it to happen. As we know the story, I am not going into the details of what happened.
But God sometimes need you and me to publish those wonderful and supernatural works that God is going to do in the lives of people as per his wish. It is important to understand that we are dependent on God’s mercy, grace, knowledge and wisdom. Without them, we cannot be successful in this wicked world.
Today what is the truth that we are publishing? Even in the worst of your situations, if God said, then it is!
Prayer
Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for teaching me about how you can change my negative situations instantly. In our lives there are some situations which we were struggling and don’t know how to get out of them. If the king in the portion could spent his time in prayer in your presence, you could have revealed him a long back. But Lord you did not leave him like that but sent your word through your prophet. In our life also, there are situations we are not praying for even though we are suffering. But Lord, through your appointed men of God you are revealing your plans. Thank you for not leaving or abandoning us. Help us to believe when your word comes to us! I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
