12-Jan-2024 – Identify tares among the wheat

Published by Bro. Sunil Binkam on

But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way – Matthew 13:25

The wheat and tare both looks alike when they are small. But at the time of harvest the difference is easily found.

Here in the context is sowing. The people sown good seeds in their field with a good intention and expectations. But their enemy sown the bad ones among them. His intention is to cause loss.

If we draw lesson from this based on the explanation given by Jesus later, as we are the followers of Jesus and guided by His Holy Spirit, we always want to align ourselves according to the word of God. This is a genuine thought for every believer when he hears the word of God. You will then start grasping the essense and align your life accordingly.

This resembles growth of the seed. During that time, the devil or the adversary who is our enemy will bring many things based on our life, to distract the growth and hinder the fruit out of it.

For example, we read about seeds should be sown in good ground for good harvest. Then God reminds us about some area where we are not utilising the opportunity in the rightly intended places. Upon hearing the word, we decided to set it right, but out of nowhere a chain of thoughts or some friend or some issue at home would come and completely deviate and dilute your decision.

How this is equivalent to the wheat and tares? In the above example wheat means the “importance you felt to change according to the word”. And the tare means, “ the importance you gave to other issue which took over your decision and made you to forget it and delay it ”. From an importance perspective both looked same, but eventually the results are hindered.

One aspect of this tares is, it will not destroy the yield but reduce the yield and affect the strength as it would consume valuable resources. Similarly, the original decision we took to change would take more time than required because we indulge in entertaining unnecessary things and wasting time and energy.

Based on what Jesus explained, there is an appointed time. That brings clarity on what is important and what is not. On that day, we are given an opportunity to take a decision to throw out the tares. May that day be not so far.

Prayer

Dear heavenly Father, thank you for teaching another aspect through the lessons of seed. Help us to understand the right things in our life to give importance and glorify your name. Help us to identify early the tares in our life and prepare consciously to separate them on the appointed time. I pray in the name of Jesus, Amen!
