10-Jul-2024 – God is your faithful husband

“Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.” – Hosea 2:14
This verse offers a profound glimpse into the heart of our God. In Hosea, God uses the metaphor of a husband and an unfaithful wife to depict His relationship with Israel.
“I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.” – Hosea 2:5
Here, we see the Lord’s accusation against Israel. In a marital relationship, it is the husband’s duty to provide for his wife. Bread and water represent basic necessities; wool and flax signify social status; oil and drink symbolize joy and happiness.
Israel mistakenly believed that their livelihood, social status, joy, and happiness came from alliances with other kingdoms and adopting their customs and traditions.
“And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now. For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.” – Hosea 2:7-8
This is a tragic situation in a marital relationship. Israel thought all their blessings were from other nations, but it was God who provided and multiplied their resources. When their worldly plans failed, they remembered God, their true provider.
In this context, God says He will allure Israel into the wilderness. The wilderness is a place without resources or established paths, symbolizing a time of trial and disconnection from worldly supports. This experience is meant to remind Israel of their dependence on God, as it did when they crossed the Red Sea.
“And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.” – Hosea 2:15
How great and loving is our God? These words are true for us as well. Even though God is the source of our satisfied bellies, comfortable living, and social status, we often fail to acknowledge Him. We attribute our success to our efforts or the help of influential people.
But every good thing in our life comes from one source: the Lord alone, our provider, protector, and sustainer. If you are enjoying blessings and think they are due to your plans, hard work, or connections, God reminds you today to recognize the truth and trust in Him, your true husband.
If you are going through a wilderness experience where nothing seems to work out, remember that God has brought you to this point. Return to Him, and all the plans that failed will align once you reconcile with God.
Believe that He is the responsible husband for your life.
Prayer: Dear loving heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and grace. Thank You for teaching us about our relationship with You. It is true that You are our provider, protector, and sustainer. Please forgive us for not giving You the glory You deserve. Help us to recognize, repent, and renew our relationship with You. We pray in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen!
