09-May-2024 – The kingdom of heaven delivers the poor, fatherless, needy, and afflicted
Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked. -Psalms 82:3-4
In India it is election season. Even though it a democratic republic, it is a kingdom in the sense of a leader taking care of the people of the land. During this season what is the main point to convince the voters?
They will choose the list of people who are under privileged, poor and socially backward people and prepare a manifesto to improve their lives. In any kingdom or nation there will be a supporting and helping hand at least will be declared.
Now consider we belong to the heavenly kingdom and God being our king, how much more he will care for the poor and fatherless and do justice to the afflicted and needy? But to understand the heavenly care, we need to understand what is being poor and fatherless, afflicted and needy.
If you consider poor, they will not have access to the necessary resources or they will have access to the limited resources. Even if they have desires, they will not have capability to fulfil them. In general we can understand this in terms of finance. The poor cannot fulfil some of the basic necessities as well. But if you consider for other areas of life like wisdom, knowledge in the work, managing family etc. Inability to meet the required situation or a genuine demand can be considered as being poor.
Our God defends us, how? if you want to defend a financially poor person, you would help him in the needed situation. In the same way, God provides the necessary helping hand, knowledge or guidance to meet the need of the hour.
If you consider fatherless, it is a family where the main earning member is no more with them. So the supply chain is broken. The source of meeting the daily requirements is gone. The life suddenly becomes a difficult journey. In practical situation, for few days people can help them by providing food. But after that? it is difficult. But our God does not leave them.
So, being fatherless means, whatever support you believed that will be available for you in your situation, is suddenly gone. You kept hopes on some way, some person and some thing, but suddenly the hopes are gone. That is equal to the fatherless situation. Our God will not abandon you in that situation but he will take care you by providing His helping hand and guiding you to the sufficiency.
Because, the ultimate goal of any good king is to take care of his people. Particularly, those who are under privileged, weak, poor and needy. The heavenly kingdom is also like that but a very larger way.
We all go through these situations in our daily life. But only those you knew their God, their King, they will rejoice because, heaven works for them.
Prayer
Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you very much for your love and grace. Thank you for reminding me about the operating principles of the kingdom of the heaven. Because of your unchanging nature, I am getting opportunity to be uplifted in my poor and needy scenarios. Help me to recongize this and praise you all through my life. I pray in the name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen!
