09-Jul-2024 – Recognize, Repent and Fit in your Assignment

Published by Bro. Sunil Binkam on

For your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away – Hosea 6:4

In this chapter, God highlights issues that are still relevant today. The context of this verse is the people of Israel, referred to as Ephraim, who went astray from the ways of the LORD. They pursued strange gods and practices but ignored God’s call. Consequently, they began to experience negative repercussions in their lives.

Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment because he willingly walked after the commandment. – Hosea 5:11

When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: yet could he not heal you, nor cure you of your wound. – Hosea 5:13

These verses summarize Ephraim’s situation: oppression, brokenness, and sickness. Yet, they did not return to God or confess their wrongdoings. Despite their efforts to seek help from powerful people, strange gods, and traditions, they eventually realized that their God is the true living God.

In this context, God says that Ephraim’s repentance is like the morning dew and a passing cloud—transient and temporary. Time and again, in their deepest troubles, the people displayed utmost reverence and sought the LORD. However, once the situation improved, they reverted to their wicked ways.

Ephraim’s time is over, but today, God is speaking directly to you and me. When we go astray, our conscience rebukes us, reminding us of God’s words. Yet, how often do we still participate in sinful activities that dishonor God?

How many times have we gone to God with repentance, received forgiveness, and then returned to our previous, flesh-influenced nature once things were okay?

Today, God is reminding us not to be like that. He chose Ephraim as His eldest—a privileged position. Today, God has chosen you and me for a specific purpose and reason. The devil wants us to waste our time in worldly and fleshly ways to hinder God’s plans for our lives. But our gracious God, out of love, is reminding us to set things right and be made perfect for our assignment.

Prayer

Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love. Thank You for reminding us today about our vulnerability as human beings and Your love and compassion, which makes You wait for our genuine repentance. Help us, Lord, to repent and be fit for the position and assignment You have for us. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
