ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called – Ephesians 4:1
In his letter to Ephesians, Paul touches upon various spiritually important aspects of a being a believer of Lord Jesus Christ. In this chapter he highlights the calling and living according to the calling.
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: -Ephesians 4:11-12
In these verses he summarizes various offices ordained by God in the church. These offices are established for a reason and for a season. The reason is perfecting of the saints and for the work of the ministry and the edification of the body of Christ, which is the church. The season is coming into the perfect unity of faith and the knowledge of Jesus Christ or simply till be transformed into the full image of Jesus Christ.
So the ultimate aim of God based on these few verses is, transforming the once sinful enslaved bond servants of flesh into the perfect holy and completely obedient sons of God who are just like a photocopy of Jesus Christ but in character.
Even though individually according to the grace of God, each one of us are called to play some role in the above mentioned offices. But the ultimate calling for all of us is the same.
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; -Ephesians 4:4
This ultimate calling is simplified in many scriptures by saying, “be ye holy as your Father in heaven is Holy”. Father’s holiness is manifested for our comprehension in His Son Jesus Christ. To transform us into that very same holiness, two things were given to us. The first one is the word of truth which is the Bible. The second one is the spirit of truth which is the Holy Spirit. These two will help a believer to understand the nature of God through Jesus and transforms us to become like Jesus ultimately.
But now the question is “Do you have desire to walk according to your calling?”. How can you walk according to your calling? By utilising the two helping resources. By the meditation of the word of God, we will understand the thing of God. By allowing the minstry of Holy Spirit, we will understand how to apply that word in our day to day life and be witnesses to the very same word and ultimately to the God.
Prayer
Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for your love and grace. Thank you for calling us to be transformed into the perfect image of Jesus Christ. I am not worthy even to utter your name. I am weak against my flesh and could not even fight in many situations except yielding to the desires. But your patient and determined grace is the reason for my existence in hope of victory. Help me to utilize the word of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit to be transformed into the perfect state as you desired of me. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
