07-Jul-2024 – Are you ready to eat spiritual meat?

Published by Bro. Sunil Binkam on

I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. -1 Corinthians 3:2

Feeding is the act of eating to gain nourishment. It’s not casual eating but purposeful and necessary to acquire the energy and strength required for daily activities.

Consider babies: their daily activities are minimal. They move their body parts but cannot walk or stand. However, their internal organs and bones grow stronger, preparing them for the day they can stand and walk. For this, they need milk to be fed.

But as they grow, milk alone isn’t sufficient. Their bodies demand more nutritious food because they are expected to do greater things physically.

In the given verse, the feeding refers to nourishment for our spirit. In the early days of our journey as believers in Jesus Christ, we are more carnal than spiritual. The word of God that is fed to us helps our spirit learn the basics of faith, God, our relationship with Him, and the forgiveness we receive through Jesus Christ. Just as babies can’t walk or stand, we initially cannot exhibit spiritual maturity. But the word of God, received through the church and personal meditation, helps our spirit grow and prepares us to stand for God’s purposes.

Meat, in this context, refers to the deeper, revelatory aspects of God’s word that only a spiritually mature believer can understand. At this stage, we can communicate with the Holy Spirit within us, hear God’s voice in our spirit, uncover the practical application of God’s word in any given situation, and achieve results based on that by faith.

Today, God reminds us that we are saved to live as mature Christians. In the physical realm, there is a visible difference between milk and meat. But in the spiritual realm, while we may be reading the same word of God, the depths of understanding differ. Initially, we may understand the word of God literally with our carnal nature. But as we grow strong in spirit by faith, we can grasp the Rhema—the deeper, spoken word of God—through the Holy Spirit within us.

So today, if you believe you are ready for the next stage, be fed on the spiritual meat, which is the deeper revelations of God’s word.

Prayer:

Dear loving Heavenly Father, thank You for teaching us today about the importance of living as practical Christians. Help us, Lord, to receive the deeper meaning of the word You have given us in our situations and prepare ourselves accordingly by faith. Help us to reach spiritual maturity. I pray in the name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen!
