06-Feb-2024 – Do you have the heart to align with God’s will?

thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly – Mathew 6:4
Today’s portion talks about a contrast between doing for the visibility of men and the visibility of God. In the 6th chapter, Jesus touches upon couple of things like –
- Doing alms
- Praying
- Fasting
- Gathering treasure
In all these cases there is a contrast the Jesus highlights. When someone does his alms, what is the motive? is to be seen and appreciated by men and recognized by men? or to meet the need of the needy and thus making the God happy about it?
There are prayers for many occasions. When we are really in trouble and need, there is a prayer that comes out of that pain. But there is also a prayer we do regularly as a practice to have the fellowship with God, to thank him and to be in that relationship. Many of us may want to show off that we are prayerful and pray loudly and visibly to others. As for the God, if the heart is not compatible with the visibly outward prayer life that means you are pleasing the people around you only.
The same with fasting, it is not to show off about our sincerity in the devotional things to the public, but to have an intimate fellowship with God in the needed time.
The treasures also are like that only. Why we gather treasures? to be counted wealthy among the people along with meeting the needs of the life. If the attitude is to be exalted in the sight of men, then we will serve the mammon which is the material wealth. But if our attitude is to meet the need of our lives, we serve the Lord who provides our needs and we will be satisfied with the best of the best provisions but not consumed by them.
Today God is asking us a question, “Do you have heart to align with God’s will? What is your answer?
Prayer
Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for your love and grace. Thank you for talking to us through the daily devotionals. Today you taught us about having an attitude to do anything for your sake, to be visible to you and to please you alone. If we please and glorify you in our lives, it is our lives that are glorified among the people for your sake. Which is the true glory for us too. This secret is not understood and that’s why we are trying many things to be recognized among the people. Forgive us and help us to align our lives according to your will in every area of our life. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen!
