For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father – Romans 8:15

This word makes a profound statement about our position and relationship with God. Today I am here to publish this wonderful work of God in your life. When you believed the Son, you received the sonship. I say that again –

When you believed the Son of God, you received the sonship with God! Amen and Hallelujah!

Okay, that’s nice to hear but what has changed with that relationship? Firstly, we received “the Spirit of adoption”.

What is a a spirit? A spirit is an invisible person, that can interact with people. If God willing we will meditate on the human trinity, “Body, Mind/Soul and Spirit”. There are many books and sermons about this, we will also do a study based on the scripture. But for now, this is our understanding.

We are created in two realms. One is physical realm and the other is spiritual realm. The physical realm is the visible realm and the spiritual realm is the invisible realm. So we have two sets of components to interact with each realms.

The body interacts completely with the physical realm. It cannot interact with spiritual realm. The spirit interacts completely with spiritual realm. And the spirit cannot directly take control of your body. Now the mind/soul plays an important and crucial role to bridge the communication between physical and spiritual realms.

When Adam sinned, we lost the connection with God in the spiritual realm which stopped the communication and feeding to our spirit and it was dead. So our body naturally was interacting with the things of the world and our mind/soul was building a sinful personality within us.

When we believed the gospel of our salvation through Jesus Christ, we are born again in Spirit and the connection with the spiritual realm was revived and we are given an opportunity of the Holy Spirit being within us, as the Spirit of adoption. The Spirit of God helps us in many ways-

1. …they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit – Romans 8:5 ⇒ This means, the Spirit of God enabled us to desire after the things of the spiritual realm, according to the will of God. Without him, we lack the capability to think and understand about the things of God. Because they sound foolish to natural man.
2. …to be spiritually minded is life and peace – Romans 8:6 ⇒ This means, the Spirit of God leads us always towards the fulfilled purpose and feeling of life and peace. He will not lead us to confusion, distress or failure.
3. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you – Romans 8:11 ⇒ This means, Our body is naturally inclined to continue in the habitual sinful nature, but the Spirit of God in us, quickens us, revives us, educate us and enable us to get out of that sinfulness.
4. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live – Romans 8:13 ⇒ This means, naturally we are unable to overcome the drive of the flesh. But the Spirit of God enables us to mortify which means killing the deeds of flesh. We will receive the power to overcome the sinful instincts because of the Spirit of God in us.
5. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God – Romans 8:14 ⇒ This means, the Spirit of God which is living in us, will lead us to live like the sons and daughters of God. He will enable us to walk as royal children.
6. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God – Romans 8:16 ⇒ This means, in the time of trouble, we may doubt our own salvation and or the existence of God. But the Spirit of God who lives in us will bears the testimony of our relationship with God. He consoles us and comforts us by reminding the relationship and enables us to continue.
7. the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered – Romans 8:26 ⇒ This means, the Spirit of God helps us in our weak moments, rebuilding the spiritual connection by interceding for us, convicting us, preparing our spirit. He will not leave us when we fail but he will lead us to victory!

So today through this devotional I am publishing the wonderful work of God in your life. He gave you His Spirit. He enabled you with His own Spirit. We saw 7 ways of working of the Spirit of God in your life. Receive this truth, you also publish it to yourself in your personal prayer and share it with your beloved.

Let’s renew our mind and enjoy the spiritual resources, guidance given through the Spirit of God!

Prayer

Dear loving heavenly Father, thank you for wonderful truth you talked to us today. Yes Lord, you gave us this free gift of Holy Spirit to be with us and in us. Thank you for this powerful comfort in my life. Thank you for preparing me and shaping me through the work of Holy Spirit. Help me to realise this and submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit. I pray in the name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen!
